I didn’t wash my hands all day after touching you.

I went through that bus station & into the subway,

then home. There you were, still all over me—

forget me not is how the moment stood.

When I’d lost the feeling, I went looking for it again,

got on my hands & knees & searched in the grass

& in the dirt, so crushed to earth I could almost

touch you.

What happened was simple, I heard the words

rearview mirror & as always went looking

for you in the backseat.
